UNDATED (AP) — The NCAA Board of Governors has put off any decision about whether to hold championship events in fall sports. The decision comes after requests to wait from both the College Commissioners Association and the Division I football oversight committee. NCAA President Mark Emmert says the right move for now is to monitor health conditions around the country and focus on recent COVID-19 guidelines issued to its member schools.

NEW YORK (AP) — The New York Jets have signed safety Ashtyn Davis to his rookie deal. Davis is the last of the team’s nine draft picks to get under contract. Davis was a third-round selection from Cal. The deal signed Thursday is for four years and worth $4.9 million. Davis is scheduled to join the rest of the Jets’ rookies, quarterbacks and injured players on Friday at the team’s facility in Florham Park, New Jersey, for COVID-19 testing. Those players will be tested again Monday, per the NFL’s coronavirus protocol, and will be able enter the building on Tuesday if both tests are negative.

UNDATED (AP) — College football leaders are in the process of piecing together plans to attempt to play a regular season during the COVID-19 pandemic. If it is possible to play, everyone anticipates there will be disruptions, added expenses and loads of stress just to get through it. So how motivated will schools be to tack on a postseason game after all of that? Especially one that doesn’t determine a national title? There are more bowl games scheduled for the coming season than ever before in major college football: 42, not including the College Football Playoff championship. Less than five months away from bowl season, most of them don’t even have a date locked in yet. If the regular season can be saved, can the postseason be salvaged, too?

UNDATED (AP) — The NCAA football oversight committee is asking the association's Board of Governors to avoid making a decision later this week on whether to conduct fall sports championships. The board is scheduled to meet Friday as college sports leaders try to find a path to play during the pandemic. There has been speculation the board could decide to call off NCAA championship events in fall sports such as soccer, volleyball and lower-division football. That could increase pressure for conferences to cancel their seasons.
