LEHI — A big thank-you celebration took place for all the first responders who saved hundreds of homes from a wildfire in Lehi.
The Traverse Fire came dangerously close to homes just two weeks ago. On Thursday, residents cheered on first responders in a parade organized by the Home Owners Association in the Canyon Hills community.
“We’re so grateful and thankful in celebrating rather than rebuilding” said Ryan Burnett, a resident who recalled evacuating all too well.
Families lined the street of Canyon Hills Road waving, cheering and sending their love and gratitude for the men and women who saved more than 200 homes from burning.
Balloons, signs, and a gigantic banner were small tokens of appreciation, but it was something the community felt had to be done.

“Were it not for the police and the fire, we could have all lost our homes,” said HOA member Richard Williams. “There’s 244 homes in this development, and the fire came within 50 feet of my home. And when I left to be evacuated, I looked back and said goodbye to my house.”
Williams said he heard from a neighbor hours later that his home was still standing.
The parade was followed by a short gathering at a park.
