SALEM, Utah County — A 6-year-old girl was placed on life support after nearly drowning in Salem Pond on Sunday, authorities confirmed on Monday.

The incident occurred about 4 p.m. on Sunday at a family function, Salem Police Chief Brad James said.

The near-drowning was an unfortunate accident, he said.

Multiple individuals jumped in the water to save her, the chief said. Details about how the girl ended up in the water and how long she had been there weren’t released.

The girl was alive and on life-support as of Monday afternoon, James said.
