SALT LAKE CITY — Multiple wildfires burned across Utah this week, including the Tabby Canyon Fire burning on Stansbury Island that was 5,000 acres before it merged with another blaze and reached 13,000 acres late Monday. The fire had joined up with another fire burning north, dubbed the North Stansbury Fire.
By Tuesday both had been 100% contained, fire officials reported.
Both fires were human-caused with the Tabby Canyon fire started on Saturday by an exploding target, Utah Fire Info officials said.
The North Stansbury Fire began on Monday and ignited from heavy equipment use, officials said.
The Tabby Canyon Fire started on Bureau of Land Management lands at the south end of the island, whereas the North Stansbury Fire started on private lands at the north end of the island.
The Tabby Canyon Fire was 6,848.8 acres as of Tuesday night and the North Stansbury Fire was 5,336.9 acres.
The fires merged together and were 20% contained late Monday night. Just 24 hours later, both had been totally contained.
More than 145 fire personnel from multiple agencies, six engines, four hand crews, two helicopters, two aircraft and one water tender all fought the fire.
