LOGAN — One person was critically injured in a car crash up Logan Canyon on Monday, Utah Highway Patrol confirmed.

The crash 12 miles northeast of Logan closed U.S. 89 through Logan Canyon and Garden City for several hours.

Just before 10 p.m. the road reopened, according to officials.

A Ford Escort northbound on U.S. 89 went partially into southbound lanes and struck a southbound semitruck hauling a tanker with food-grade grease. The semitruck went off the right side of the southbound road and back across all lanes into the Logan River, where it flipped on its side.

The Ford’s driver was transported to a hospital in critical condition.

Officials initially said a person had died in the crash but later said they were in critical condition at a hospital.
