LONDON, Sep 4, 2006 (UPI via COMTEX) -- A small fire broke out in London's Royal Albert Hall, filling the building with smoke and making it impossible for the Philadelphia Orchestra to perform.
Sunday's concert, which was to be broadcast on BBC TV 4 and BBC Radio 3, cut off electricity and filled the venue with smoke, the BBC reported. No one was injured.
The small blaze apparently broke out in the artists' bar of the venue. The cause was still under investigation.
Sunday's performance, conducted by German-born Christoph Eschenbach, was to have featured works by Beethoven and Matthias Pintscher. That concert will not be rescheduled and tickets will be automatically refunded.
Eschenbach will conduct the Philadelphia Orchestra Monday, as planned, performing the fifth symphonies of Beethoven and Tchaikovsky, as part of BBC's Promenade Concert series.
A fire broke out at the same venue four years ago when crooner Tony Bennett was to perform.
