OGDEN — Two people already wanted for allegedly leading police on a chase two weeks ago were arrested following a wild pursuit through the streets of Ogden early Sunday.

Hunter Spencer Robinson, 24, of Layton, and Susie Eberle, 23, of Ogden, were arrested following a chase that had many onlookers lined up along the streets recording portions of it with their cellphones.

Police initially attempted to pull Robinson over just after 1 a.m. as he turned from Washington Boulevard onto the 400 block of 32nd Street, according to a police booking affidavit.

“Robinson turned off the vehicle lights and failed to stop. Hunter fled northbound in the 3100 block of Ogden Avenue. Hunter ran the stop sign and 31st Street and Ogden Avenue and continued north into the 3000 block of Ogden Avenue, which dead-ends,” the affidavit states.

The pursuing officer attempted to block Robinson and Eberle in, but “had to put my vehicle in reverse in order to keep Hunter from ramming” his patrol car, according to the affidavit.

As the chase continued, other officers attempted to spike Robinson’s tires. In one case, “Hunter swerved directly” toward an officer who had to run out of the way to avoid being hit, the affidavit states. The same thing happened to a second officer trying to spike Robinson’s tires. The officer ”was almost struck by Hunter and had to run in another direction to avoid being hit.”

Officers were able to spike the tires on Robinson’s vehicle three separate times, but it kept going.

“Hunter ran numerous stop signs, red lights and drove against traffic, creating a hazard to the community,” according to the affidavit.

Pursuing officers noted that Eberle was actively “pointing in directions for Hunter to drive during the pursuit. Hunter would then drive that direction in order to avoid apprehension,” officers wrote.

Eventually, with numerous police vehicles now involved in pursuing Robinson, a Utah Highway Patrol vehicle performed a PIT maneuver, disabling Hunter’s vehicle, the affidavit states.

“Hunter then got out of his vehicle and ran from officers ... despite numerous vehicles still chasing him with their lights and sirens on and multiple uniformed officers yelling for him to stop. Hunter had to be tackled to the ground and refused to put his hands behind his back and surrender. It took numerous officers several seconds, using numerous verbal commands to stop resisting and put his hands behind his back; officers used closed-hand strikes in order to subdue Hunter. Hunter was finally handcuffed and placed under arrest,” according to the affidavit.

Robinson was formally charged Monday in 2nd District Court with two counts of assault on a peace officer, a second-degree felony; failing to stop at the command of an officer, a third-degree felony; failing to stop at the command of an officer, a class A misdemeanor; drug possession with intent to distribute, a third-degree felony; interfering with an arrest, DUI, and possession of drug paraphernalia, all class B misdemeanors.

Police also linked Robinson to a chase on May 8 and charged him Monday with another count of failing to stop at the command of an officer, a third-degree felony.

Eberle, in addition to having four warrants out for her arrest, was arrested for investigation of obstructing justice. She was formally charged Monday in 2nd District Court with failing to stop at the command of an officer, a third-degree felony.
