UNDATED (AP) — Indian authorities have decided to shut down liquor shops in Mumbai, India’s financial capital which is the worst hit by the coronavirus pandemic, after the police found it extremely difficult to control the surging crowds at the vends over the past two days. Municipal Commissioner Praveen Pardeshi in an order late Tuesday said that only groceries and pharmacies will be allowed to be opened in Mumbai which is battling a rapidly rising number of coronavirus cases.

PHOENIX (AP) — President Donald Trump is making himself Exhibit A in his determination to move past the coronavirus crisis, even as COVID-19 continues to spread. He visited an Arizona face mask factory Tuesday — his first trip out of Washington in more than a month. But he did not wear a mask himself. Trump acknowledged that easing restrictions will result, in his words, in some people being “affected badly.” But he said it is imperative to “get our country open” and soon. The trip came as an Associated Press analysis found infection rates rising even as states start lifting their lockdowns.

MIAMI (AP) — The family of a cruise crew member who died after testing positive for COVID-19 has filed a lawsuit against Royal Caribbean Cruises saying the company failed to protect its employees. The wrongful death case filed in circuit court in Miami says 27-year-old Pujiyoko suffered from flu-like symptoms but was not tested for six days. The Indonesian man was disembarked in a life boat seven days after first reporting to the Symphony of the Seas’ medical facility. The lawsuit argues Royal Caribbean failed to follow virus guidelines allowing crew parties and buffets.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Supreme Court says Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg has been hospitalized with an infection caused by a gallstone, but has no plans to miss the court's arguments by telephone. The 87-year-old justice underwent non-surgical treatment Tuesday for what the court described as acute cholecystitis, a benign gallbladder condition, at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore. She expects to be in the hospital for a day or two, the court says. Ginsburg took part in the court’s telephone arguments Monday and Tuesday. She initially sought medical care Monday, when the gallstone was first diagnosed. She has been treated four times for cancer, most recently in August.

UNDATED (AP) — Stocks closed higher on Wall Street but gave up about half of their early gains in a late-afternoon bout of selling. The S&P 500 rose 0.9% Tuesday after being up 2% earlier. Overseas markets also rose as more countries relaxed restrictions on businesses and stay-at-home orders, raising hopes for a recovery from the historic plunge sweeping the global economy. Crude oil closed sharply higher, continuing its mini-rally after falling to record lows late last month. Lockdowns and travel restrictions put in place to slow the spread of the coronavirus have caused demand for energy to crash and led to widespread job losses.
