WOODS CROSS — Two people suffered injuries not considered to be life-threatening after being shot in a Woods Cross parking lot late Tuesday.

Police were still looking for the gunman Wednesday.

The violent confrontation happened about 11 p.m. in the area of 850 North and U.S. 89. Witnesses told police they could hear an argument between the gunman and two or three other people standing outside a car in a parking lot, said Woods Cross Police Chief Chad Soffe.

As the victims got into their vehicle to leave, multiple shots were fired, the chief said. Detectives would later find nine shell casings in the parking lot and six bullet holes in the vehicle.

One person was shot in the arm and the other in the leg, Soffe said. Both were dropped off at a local hospital, which is why police believe a third person may have also been present during the shooting.

The chief said the victims’ vehicle was found in Clearfield about 5 a.m.

Soffe said the two victims at the hospital have not been cooperative with police. One victim told detectives they were shot while driving on the freeway and the other said in the parking lot, the chief said.

The gunman is believed to have run across U.S. 89 after the shooting where he either parked his own car or was picked up by someone, he said.

Soffe said investigators were looking at whether the initial meeting between the gunman and victims was drug-related.
