CEDAR CITY — A single-vehicle accident on I-15 killed a child and injured two others Sunday.
The Toyota 4-Runner was traveling south with two people in the front and the child in the backseat. Department of Public Safety officials report the 3-year-old child was not properly restrained and was wearing a regular lap belt.
The child started to cry and when the driver reached back to give them a bottle, the vehicle drifted off the right shoulder, according to public safety officials. The driver attempted to correct the vehicle, which then crossed to the other side of the road, collided with the guardrail and rolled.
The child was ejected from the vehicle and died from their injuries. The passenger was seriously injured and transported to Dixie Regional Hospital; the driver suffered minor injures.
Both the passenger and the driver were wearing seatbelts.
