MIDVALE — A 20-year-old man was held at gunpoint by carjackers who forced him to drive them to an unknown location in South Salt Lake on Saturday night, police said.
Unified police detective Kevin Mallory said the man was going to a party at the Brighton Place apartment complex in Midvale when he saw an unknown number of men trying to break into his car. Once they realized the car was a stick shift, they forced the owner to drive them to South Salt Lake.
Once they arrived at the location, they beat up the victim, robbed him and left him with a head injury and a laceration, Mallory said. The suspects took his car, wallet and other personal items.
Additional information about the suspects was not immediately available. Police do not know how the suspects took the car later without knowing how to drive a stick shift. The incident is being investigated by the UPD's Midvale precinct.
