Hornets surprise Raptors
UNDATED (AP) — The Toronto Raptors had Norman Powell back in the lineup last night, but he couldn’t prevent a loss to the Charlotte Hornets.
Terry Rozier scored 18 points and the game-clinching free throw with two seconds remaining to carry the Hornets past the Raptors, 99-96 in Toronto. Devonte' Graham also had 18 points for Charlotte, which led by 17 in the second quarter.
Powell return from a nine-game injury layoff to score 22 points. Pascal Siakam (see-A’-kam) finished with 24 points and nine rebounds, while Kyle Lowry scored 12 of his 21 points in the fourth quarter for the Raptors.
Toronto has dropped three of five since a team-record, 15-game winning streak. The Raptors’ lead in the Atlantic Division is down to a half-game over the Celtics.

— The Bucks handed the Thunder their worst loss of the season as Giannis Antetokounmpo (YAH’-nihs an-teh-toh-KOON’-poh) had 32 points and 13 rebounds in Milwaukee’s 133-86 romp. Wesley Matthews, George Hill and Pat Connaughton each had 14 points to help Milwaukee pick up its fifth straight win and improve to a league-best 51-8. The Bucks played without Khris Middleton due to a sore neck.
— Paul George furnished 24 points and Kawhi (kah-WY’) Leonard added 19 as the Clippers cruised to a 132-103 rout of the Nuggets. Montrezl (MAHN’-trehz) Harrell had 18 points and 10 rebounds off the bench to help Los Angeles win its third in a row since a three-game skid. Nikola Jokic (nee-KOH’-lah YOH’-kihch) had 21 points and nine boards for Denver, which fell into a second-place tie with the Clippers in the West.
— The Pelicans knocked off the Cavaliers, 116-104 as Brandon Ingram provided 29 points and Zion Williamson added 24. Jrue (jroo) Holiday scored 22 points and Derrick Favors grabbed 15 rebounds in New Orleans’ third victory in four games. The surging Pelicans are 9-5 since Williamson was activated, pushing them within two games of Memphis for the final Western Conference playoff berth.
— The Grizzlies dropped their fifth in a row as De’Aaron Fox scored 25 points and Harry Giles added 16 in leading the Kings past Memphis, 104-101. Buddy Hield (heeld) chipped in 14 points, including a pair of free throws with 4.4 seconds left in Sacramento’s fourth win in five games. Dillon Brooks paced Memphis with a season-high 32 points.
— The Heat opened the fourth quarter with a 13-0 run before completing a 126-118 victory against the Mavericks. Jimmy Butler delivered 26 points and Duncan Robinson added 24 to help the Southeast Division leaders win for just the third time in 10 games. Seth Curry had a career-high 37 points for Dallas, shooting 13 for 15 from the field and 8 for 9 from 3-point range.
— Donovan Mitchell contributed 10 of his 30 points in an 82-second span of the fourth quarter to push the Jazz past the Wizards, 129-119. Bojan (boy-AHN’) Bogdanovic scored 21 points, Jordan Clarkson had 20 off the bench and Mike Conley 16 as Utah salvaged the finale of its six-game homestand. Bradley Beal maintained his torrid scoring for Washington, finishing with 42 points, 10 assists and five rebounds.
— The Nets suffered their third straight loss at John Collins had 33 points and 13 rebounds in the Hawks’ 141-118 thumping of Brooklyn. Rookie Cam Reddish scored 17 of his career-high 26 points in the third quarter to help Atlanta take control. Trae Young chipped in 22 points and 14 assists after entering the game ranked No. 2 in the league in both categories.
— Aaron Gordon recorded his first career triple-double and Terrence Ross scored 19 of his season-high 33 points in the fourth quarter of the Magic’s 136-125 victory against the Timberwolves. Gordon finished with 17 points, 11 rebounds and a career-high 12 assists in Orlando’s fifth win in six games. Nikola Vucevic added 27 points and 10 rebounds for the Magic.
— Derrick Rose hit for 31 points and the Pistons stopped a seven-game losing streak by nipping the Suns, 113-111. Christian Wood and Brandon Knight both added 19 points in Detroit’s first win since Feb. 5, also against Phoenix.

Dayton flies to A-10 title
DAYTON, Ohio (AP) — Fourth-ranked Dayton has wrapped up the Atlantic 10 regular-season title with its 18th straight win.
Obi Toppin (OH’-bee TAH’-pihn) scored 23 points and the Flyers shot 72.3% from the field in an 82-67 victory against Davidson. Toppin was 10 of 11 from the field and had 12 rebounds as Dayton improved to 16-0 in the conference.
Ibi Watson came off the bench to score 13 points, taking a bigger offensive load with Jalen Crutcher in foul trouble. Crutcher finished with 14 points.
NHL-SCHEDULE
Flyers extend win streak
UNDATED (AP) — The Philadelphia Flyers have continued their torrid stretch to climb within three points of the first-place Washington Capitals in the NHL’s Metropolitan Division.
Claude Giroux (juh-ROO’) scored twice and Carter Hart stopped 26 shots in the Flyers’ fifth consecutive win, 5-2 over the Rangers. Hart improved to 18-2-2 at home and 14-1 over his last 15 starts.
Sean Couturier (koo-TOOR’-ee-ay), James van Riemsdyk (REEMZ’-dyk) and Kevin Hayes also scored to help the Flyers beat New York for the eighth time in their last nine meetings.
The Rangers ended a team-record, nine-game road winning streak and took a severe hit to their playoff chances when Chris Kreider broke a foot in the first period.
Elsewhere on NHL ice:
— John Gibson made 28 saves and Brendan Guhle (GOO’-lee) provided the game-winner in the second period of the Ducks’ 3-2 victory against the Penguins. Danton Heinen and Ryan Getzlaf (GETS’-laf) also scored for the Ducks, who have won two straight for the first time in over three weeks. Pittsburgh has fallen into third place in the Metropolitan Division, one point behind Philadelphia after dropping five straight for the first time since the 2011-12 season.
— Colorado squandered a 2-0 lead before Samuel Girard scored a tiebreaking goal with 2:37 left to send the Avalanche past the Hurricanes, 3-2. Tyson Jost (johst) broke a 36-game scoring drought with a pair of goals in Colorado’s fifth straight win overall and seventh in a row on the road. Pavel Francouz (FRAN’-sohs) stopped 45 shots to win his fifth consecutive start and help the Avs get within three points of the Central Division-leading Blues.
— Reilly Smith scored twice in the third period, including the eventual game-winner in the Golden Knights’ 4-2 verdict over the Sabres. The score was tied 1-1 until William Karlsson tallied 3:06 into the final stanza. Robin Lehner made 32 saves in his Vegas debut as the Knights expanded their Pacific Division lead to six points over the Canucks and Oilers.
— The Wild hammered the Blue Jackets, 5-0 as Alex Stalock (STAY’-lahk) stopped 24 shots for his fourth shutout of the season. Zach Parise (pah-REE’-say) and Kevin Fiala (fee-AH’-lah) each had a goal and an assist to help the Wild improve to 12-5-1 in their past 18, moving them within a point of a Western Conference wild-card slot.

Peralta finalizes $15.5M deal with Brewers
UNDATED (AP) — Pitcher Freddy Peralta (peh-RAHL’-tah) has finalized his five-year, $15.5 million contract with the Milwaukee Brewers.
The deal for the 23-year-old right-hander covers two years of club salary control and his three years of arbitration eligibility. There are a pair of team options that if exercised would raise the value to $30 million over seven seasons.
Peralta was 7-3 with a 5.29 ERA in eight games last season, striking out 115 over 85 innings.

— Yankees slugger Giancarlo Stanton is upset over his latest injury, a strained right calf that could sideline him for opening day. Stanton was hurt Tuesday during outfield drills, and an MRI revealed a Grade 1 strain, the least serious on the scale. Stanton said his chance to play in the March 26 opener at Baltimore all depends on his progress by the end of next week.
— Five-time All-Star Johnny Antonelli has died at 89, according to the San Francisco Giants. Antonelli was the ace of the 1954 New York Giants team that won the World Series, going 21-7 with a National League-leading 2.30 ERA. Antonelli won Game 2 of the 1954 Fall Classic against Cleveland and got the final five outs in Game 4 to help the Giants complete a sweep of the Indians. He finished with 126 victories over 12 major league seasons, including 20 in 1956.
PGA-HONDA CLASSIC
Steele leads through 36
PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. (AP) — Brendan Steele is the leader at the midway point of the PGA’s Honda Classic at Palm Beach Garden.
Steele shot a 3-under 67 today to get to 5-under through two rounds, one shot clear of J.T. Poston, Luke Donald and Lee Westwood. Donald moved up the leaderboard with a 66.
Brooks Koepka (KEHP’-kuh), Rickie Fowler, Justin Rose and defending champion Keith Mitchell are among those who missed the cut.
PGA TOUR CHAMPIONS-COLOGUARD CLASSIC
Quigley sizzles in Tucson
TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) — Brett Quigley birdied six of the last seven holes for a 9-under 64 and the first-round lead in the PGA Tour Champions' Cologuard Classic.
Robert Karlsson was second, making five back-nine birdies in a 65. The 50-year-old Swede is making his second career start on the 50-and-over tour.
Steve Stricker, John Daly, Glen Day and Rod Pampling shot 67. Hall of Famers Fred Couples and Bernhard Langer are another stroke back along with Ken Tanigawa.

Michigan gets more than 100 complaints against former doctor
ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) — The University of Michigan says its hotline has received more than 100 “unique complaints” about a late physician accused of sexual abuse by former patients, including athletes who encountered him as a team doctor.
The university's president apologized last week to “anyone who was harmed” by Dr. Robert E. Anderson. His comment came a day after the school announced it was investigating abuse allegations against Anderson by five former patients.

NCAA committee proposes 2-minute limit on replay reviews
UNDATED (AP) — The NCAA football rules committee is proposing two-minute limits on replay reviews and allowing players ejected from a game for targeting to remain in the bench area.
The committee recommended requiring game officials to be on the field 90 minutes before a contest begins — instead of 60 minutes. It also recommended a coach be on the field for team pregame warmups. The committee said it was concerned about “negative interactions” between teams before officials are required to be on the field.
STADIUM CRANE COLLAPSE
No injuries reported when crane collapses at LA stadium site
INGLEWOOD, Calif. (AP) — No injuries have been reported after a large construction crane collapsed Friday outside SoFi Stadium, the new home of the NFL's Los Angeles Chargers and Rams.
Firefighters were dispatched to the stadium in suburban Inglewood shortly before 8 a.m. A Fire Department said a crane that was being moved struck a stationary crane, causing the stationary crane to collapse. There was no structural damage to the stadium, which is scheduled to open this summer.

Cardinals to play 2020 home game in Mexico City
TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) — The Arizona Cardinals will play a regular-season game in Mexico City this year, with the date and opponent to be revealed later. The Cardinals were required by the NFL to host a game outside the United States by 2023 after being awarded the hosting rights to the Super Bowl that will be played in February 2023. It will be the Cardinals’ second game in Mexico City and first since a 31-14 win over San Francisco in 2005.

Olympic champion Sun Yang banned for 8 years in doping case
GENEVA (AP) — China’s greatest swimmer has been banned for eight years for breaking anti-doping rules and will miss the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
The Court of Arbitration for Sport has found three-time Olympic champion Sun Yang guilty of refusing to cooperate with sample collectors during a visit to his home in September 2018, when a blood sample container was smashed with a hammer.
Rivals branded him a drug cheat at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics, and two competitors refused to stand with him on medal podiums at the 2019 world championships.
