RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — No. 18 Iowa faces a pair of tests against ranked Big Ten teams to highlight the AP Top 25 schedule this week. The Hawkeyes visit No. 15 Maryland and host No. 19 Illinois. Those are two of the three games nationally that feature two ranked teams. The other comes in the Southeastern Conference, where No. 13 Kentucky and No. 17 Auburn meet in a rematch of last year's NCAA Elite Eight game won by the Tigers. Top-ranked Baylor also plays twice this week, visiting Iowa State and hosting TCU.
UNDATED (AP) — Baylor is No. 1 for a second straight week in an AP Top 25 men's college basketball poll that had no major changes at the top. The Bears stayed well ahead of No. 2 Gonzaga, part of an unchanged top seven for the first time this season. Kansas was third, followed by San Diego State and Florida State to round out the top five. No. 22 LSU, No. 23 Wichita State and No. 24 Penn State were the week's new additions. Texas Tech, Memphis and Arizona fell out of the rankings.
NEW YORK (AP) — Oregon moved up one spot in The Associated Press women's basketball poll to No. 3 after beating rival Oregon State twice in a 48-hour span. The Ducks jumped over UConn, but still sit behind South Carolina and Baylor in the Top 25. The Gamecocks received 26 first-place votes from the national media panel. Baylor garnered three and Louisville one. UConn was fourth and Louisville fifth in the poll. Stanford, N.C. State, UCLA, Mississippi State and Oregon State round out the first 10 teams. The Beavers dropped three spots after getting swept by Oregon.
ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) — Michigan point guard Zavier Simpson has been suspended for an unspecified violation of team policies and will miss Tuesday night's game at Nebraska. Coach Juwan Howard says Simpson's status will be evaluated again after that game. Simpson, a senior, averages a team-high 33.8 minutes, along with 12.8 points. He also leads the nation with 8.3 assists per game. Michigan has lost four straight and five of its last six, sinking toward the bottom of the Big Ten after a bright start in Howard's first season.
