SALT LAKE CITY — How do you pay for your favorite products? Cash? Credit or debit card? Maybe even Apple Pay? If you’re a concert goer, monster truck lover or Utah Jazz fan, you’ll need to ask this question more seriously in the near future.
Vivint Smart Home Arena will become a cash-free environment beginning Jan. 18, 2020 when the Jazz welcome the Sacramento Kings to town. The arena will only accept credit, debit and prepaid cards, alongside mobile payments within the next few days.
This new transition will affect purchases at food and beverage points in the arena, as well as the Utah Jazz Team Store and the box office.
Vivint Arena began testing the cash-free method at select locations in 2019 and found that fans spent 10% to 30% less time in lines for concessions, according to a news release. Because of the staggering decrease, the arena also saw a rise in fan experience, officials said.
"The feedback from our initial phase of the cash-free transition was resoundingly positive," said John Kimball, president of Vivint Smart Home Arena. "There’s no doubt that cash-free transactions have sped up the lines at our concessions locations so fans can get back to the action quicker, and we’re eager to expand the cash-free environment to all food and beverage locations, the box office, and Utah Jazz Team Store for the benefit of all fans."
The electronic methods of payment that will be accepted will be on the Utah Jazz + Vivint Arena app digital wallet, Apple, Samsung, Google and Android pay.
Vivint Arena’s box office will only accept credit, debit and prepaid cards.
If you are one of those who only operates in cash, don’t worry. The arena will feature five cash-to-card kiosks that will take cash and convert it to a Mastercard prepaid debit card for no fee. These debit card can be used anywhere inside or outside the arena.
