TAYLORSVILLE — Police have identified a man who died and a woman who was arrested on suspicion of DUI following a crash in Taylorsville late Monday night.

The crash took place about 11 p.m. at the intersection of 2700 West and 4700 South, according to Unified police detective Ken Hansen.

A woman driving a sedan west on 4700 South crashed into a sedan that was heading south on 2700 West, Hansen said. The woman was identified Tuesday as Andrea Miller, 39, according to police.

One man in the southbound car suffered critical injuries in the crash and later died from his injuries, Unified police confirmed. He was identified Tuesday as Ryan Muhlestein, 25, police said.

The male passenger in the southbound car remained in critical condition Tuesday morning. He has not been identified. The two sedans were the only cars involved in the crash.

Miller was taken into custody after the crash, according to Hansen. She was in fair condition as of Tuesday morning, police said.

Miller was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail for investigation of automobile homicide, DUI, failure to remain at an accident involving death, and carrying a dangerous weapon under the influence, according to a jail report.

Witnesses told police that the light was red for Miller when she approached the intersection on 4700 South, according to a jail report. Her car then T-boned Muhlestein's car, which had a green light, according to the report.

Witnesses also told police they heard Miller say "I can't do this" and "I need to leave" after the crash, the report states. She traveled across a gas station parking lot before being stopped by an Adult Probation and Parole agent who had arrived at the scene.

Miller told officers she had a firearm in her jacket, and they discovered she had a semiautomatic pistol, the report states. A Unified police officer who also responded to the scene smelled alcohol on Miller's breath and performed field sobriety tests that indicated she was under the influence of alcohol, according to the report. Miller did not immediately consent to a blood draw.
