CLEARFIELD — A 20-year-old woman died after being hit by a car in Clearfield Thursday morning, police said.

The crash occurred about 6:40 a.m. at the intersection of 700 South and the I-15 northbound off-ramp, according to Clearfield police Assistant Chief Devin Rogers.

The woman suffered critical injuries and was transported to Davis Hospital and Medical Center, where she later died, Rogers said. She was identified Friday as Calista Taylor, of Clearfield.

The woman was hit by a pick-up truck, Rogers later confirmed in a news release. Officials were working to determine if the collision occurred within a pedestrian crossing.

The driver remained at the scene and was cooperating with police, he said. As of 11:30 a.m. Thursday, no citations were filed, Rogers said. The incident remains under investigation.

The Utah Department of Transportation reported that 700 South was temporarily closed east of I-15, and traffic was being diverted to northbound I-15, but the scene was cleared as of 9 a.m., according to the agency's website.

Police are asking anyone who witnessed the crash to contact the Clearfield Police Department at 801-525-2806 to give a statement.
