LEHI — The Utah Department of Transportation is asking trucks to slow down while driving through the construction zone on I-15 around Lehi.

The advisory speed limit for semitractor-trailers and other large trucks in that area will now be posted as 50 mph, spokesman John Gleason said Tuesday. The enforceable speed limit will remain 60 mph.

The change comes after two trucks within the last week lost control and tipped over while driving through the Technology Corridor project work zone.

“Anytime we have a crash on any road throughout the state, we look to see if there’s an engineering solution or something we can do to enhance safety,” Gleason said.

The lowered advisory speed limit may be “an abundance of caution,” he continued, “but we want to make sure we take every step to make the work zone as safe as possible.”

Truck drivers aren’t the only ones who should be using extra caution while driving through the construction zone, especially in the winter months, Gleason said. He urged all drivers to watch their speed and pay close attention to the road.

“We’re seeing far too many people driving through there too fast,” Gleason said. “This is something we’re looking at to see how we can make the work zone as safe as it can possibly be, and we’re asking everybody else to do their part as well.”
