The selection committee’s third weekly rankings had little movement in the top 10, with Alabama fifth followed by Oregon, Utah, Penn State, Oklahoma and Minnesota.
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) — The parents of Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa say the support the family has received “is nothing short of amazing.” Galu and Diane Tagovailoa issued a statement through Alabama’s athletic department and on Facebook. Tua Tagovailoa had surgery to repair a dislocated right hip suffered against Mississippi State.
UNDATED (AP) — Kyle Pitts has been crucial to Florida’s success even after losing quarterback Feleipe Franks to a season-ending knee injury. He has the second-most catches and fifth-most yards receiving among tight ends nationally, averaging 4.2 catches per game and hauling in five touchdowns. It’s why Pitts, despite being left off the Mackey Award semifinal list, is a legitimate All-America candidate.
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) — Reserve Jaden Shackelford scored 25 points and Alabama picked up its second victory of the season with an 81-73 win over Furman. Shackelford scored 14 points in the first half behind a hot shooting streak of three 3-pointers within minutes of each other.
FAYETEVILLE, Ark. (AP) — Isaiah Joe scored 29 of his game-high 33 points in the second half and helped Arkansas defeat Texas Southern at Bud Walton Arena, 82-51. The Razorbacks won their fourth straight game by blitzing the visitors in the second half 45-27.
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AP) — Arkansas has reinstated sophomore forward Reggie Chaney after he was suspended three games for violating team rules. Chaney had been practicing with the team and will be available to play against Texas Southern.
UNDATED (AP) — Duke will face California in basketball and possibly No. 22 Texas at Madison Square Garden after climbing to No. 1. The Blue Devils moved atop the AP Top 25 after the previous No. 1, Kentucky, lost to unranked Evansville at home.
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Vanderbilt athletic director Malcolm Turner says Derek Mason has his full support as the Commodores’ head coach and will work together to give the football program the resources and support needed to succeed. Turner issued a statement with Vanderbilt 2-8 in Mason’s sixth season. The athletic director says Vanderbilt is in the midst of developing a new plan for football and all of its varsity sports. Turner says Mason is committed to leading Vanderbilt football “the right way.”
