HOUSTON (AP) — Bailey Zappe threw three touchdown passes and Houston Baptist held off Lamar for a 31-26 victory on Saturday.

Zappe was 14-of-27 passing for 251 yards and threw all three scores to Jerreth Sterns, who finished with five catches for 53 yards. Dreshawn Minnieweather added 129 yards rushing and a touchdown for Houston Baptist (5-6, 2-5 Southland Conference). Ben Ratzlaff had 83 yards receiving on five catches, and Alfred King had an interception for the Huskies.

Marcellus Johnson ran for 96 yards and two touchdowns, and Bailey Giffen kicked four field goals, including a 51-yarder in the first quarter, for the Cardinals (4-7, 2-6).

The Huskies’ Gino Garcia had a 46-yard field goal attempt blocked by Michael Lawson with 3:18 remaining. On the ensuing drive, Lamar got to the Houston Baptist 33 but threw an incomplete pass on fourth-and-1 with 1:15 to play.
