WEST VALLEY CITY — One woman died in West Valley City overnight after her car collided with an SUV whose driver ran from the scene on foot, police say.

A West Valley patrol officer happened upon the crash just moments after it occurred near 3200 West and 3590 South about 12:40 a.m. The officer remained on scene with the injured woman after the SUV’s driver fled.

The woman was transported to the hospital and later pronounced dead, West Valley police Lt. Todd Gray said.

Gray said there is a “possibility” there was more than one person in the SUV that struck the woman’s car. “But that has not been verified,” Gray said.

“Containment was set up at the area, with the use of K-9s,” he said “An extensive search was conducted, and the suspect has not been located at this time.”

Police described the SUV driver as a Hispanic male with a goatee, black T-shirt and jeans.

Gray said police are concerned that the SUV driver may be injured. He said the driver could face a “host of charges.”
