EAST LANSING, Mich. (AP) — Tom Izzo's 25th team at Michigan State might be one of his best. All-America guard Cassius Winston is one of four returning starters from last season's team that won the Big Ten title and advanced to the Final Four. Izzo has another quartet of players with some experience along with a freshman class, including highly touted guard Mark Watts.
COLLEGE PARK, Md. (AP) — The erratic play of Maryland's defense has proven to be more of a problem for first-year coach Mike Locksley than losing his starting quarterback to injury. Tyrrell Pigrome ran for a 61-yard score and threw for 218 yards at Purdue last Saturday as the replacement for Josh Jackson, who was out with high ankle sprain. Unfortunately, the Boilermakers amassed 547 yards and walloped the Terrapins 40-14. Locksley says the Terps have been plagued with inconsistency on defense.
UNDATED (AP) — LSU quarterback Joe Burrow, who has set a record-breaking pace during the first half of the season, and Wisconsin running back Jonathan Taylor highlight The Associated Press midseason All-America team. No. 2 LSU, No. 6 Wisconsin and No. 12 Oregon each placed three players on the first team, tying for the most of any school on the team.
IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) — No. 23 Iowa has lost back-to-back games to Michigan and Penn State, scoring just 15 points in all. The Hawkeyes, who scored in every quarter of their first four games, have had just one touchdown and three field goals in their last eight quarters. They also have six turnovers the last two games after just one in the first four. Iowa faces Purdue this weekend.
