SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A wind-fueled wildfire in foothills east of Layton is threatening some homes.

Utah wildfire officials said Monday afternoon that the fire was about 50 acres (20 hectares) and growing amid high winds in foothills east Layton near the smaller city of Fruit Heights.

Layton city officials warned residents in the areas to be prepared to evacuate if necessary.

The National Weather Service issued a red flag warning Monday due to high winds around 30 mph.

The fire is burning about 20 miles north of Salt Lake City.
