SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Charges filed against a Salt Lake City-area man accuse him of using a dead person's name in creating a payroll services business that allegedly filed false tax returns.
The state Tax Commission said Saturday that 75-year-old Dan Roberts of Holladay faces 10 counts of filing false returns or statements, six counts of forgery and one count each of identity fraud and engaging in a pattern of unlawful activity.
According to the agency, Roberts used a deceased person's name and signature to register his business and then profited by use of the identity while transferring money from business accounts.
It's not known whether Roberts has an attorney who could comment on the allegations. He has been summoned to appear in District Court to answer the charges on Oct. 8.
