PRICE — The driver of a small pickup truck died when the vehicle collided with a semitruck in Price Canyon early Friday, officials said.

Baylan Nelson, 22, of Huntington, died when the vehicles crashed on southbound U.S. Highway 6 west of Indian Canyon, according to a tweet from Utah Highway Patrol.

About 3:18 a.m., a Freightliner semitrailer was trying to pass a slower-moving semitrailer in a no passing zone westbound on the highway, UHP said in a news release. The area where the semitrailer was passing also was on a hill and a corner, according to UHP.

Nelson's Ford F-350 pickup was heading east and crashed head-on into the semitrailer. Nelson was pronounced dead at the scene, according to UHP.

The road was closed for most of the morning Friday, and traffic was being diverted to Emma Park Road, according to the Utah Department of Transportation. As of 11:30 a.m., the crash scene had been cleared, according to the agency's website.

Several agencies, including the State Bureau of Investigations and the local county attorney, are assisting UHP with the case, the agency said in the release.
