SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP) — The Panthers have added a familiar face to the roster, signing safety Tre Boston to a one-year contract.
Boston didn't participate in the team's morning practice on Thursday at Wofford College, but he's expected to join the team later in the day.
The five-year NFL veteran could challenge Rashaan Gaulden for a starting job at safety alongside veteran Eric Reid.
Boston spent his first three seasons in Carolina, playing in 43 games with 77 tackles, 10 pass breakups and three interceptions. He played for the Arizona Cardinals last season after a year with the Los Angeles Chargers in 2017. He combined for 122 tackles, 17 pass breakups and eight interceptions during those two seasons.
Panthers linebacker Luke Kuechly sat out practice after leaving practice Wednesday with an unspecified injury.
