HIGHLAND, Utah (AP) — The city of Highland has passed a resolution in support of anti-abortion legislation, marking at least the third time a local government in Utah has a taken an official position against the procedure since state lawmakers passed new restrictions this year.
The resolution approved Tuesday declares support for abortion restrictions at the national and state levels.
The group Abortion-Free Utah says in a statement that the unanimous vote came after Highland Mayor Rod Mann said his wife was adopted and talked about his work with developmentally disabled people.
The city of Riverton passed a similar resolution in May, and Utah County passed another in June.
The state Legislature this year passed a new ban on abortions after 18 weeks. The law isn't being enforced as it's challenged in court.
