SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A police officer in the community of Bountiful is facing multiple misdemeanor charges in separate cases accusing him of assault and illegally accessing records.
The Deseret News reported Friday that 31-year-old Ryan Kent Newbold is on administrative leave from the department as he awaits court hearings in the cases.
Details of the alleged crimes weren't released by police or Newbold's attorney. He was charged in February with obstructing justice and assault. More charges were filed last month, when he was accused of obstructing justice plus two counts of unlawful access of police records.
Defense attorney Nathan Evershed says his client maintains his innocence. He faces court hearings later this month and in July on the two cases.
