OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Oregon State catcher Adley Rutschman has won the Golden Spikes Award as the outstanding college baseball player. The No. 1 overall draft pick by the Baltimore Orioles was Pac-12 player of the year after batting .411 with 17 home runs and 58 RBIs and an NCAA-leading .575 on-base percentage. California's Andrew Vaughn won last year, making this the first time the Pac-12 has had back-to-back winners.
TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) — Arizona State football coach Herm Edwards will become an instructor at the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication. Edwards will serve as a guest lecturer and conduct regular discussions on sports and media while continuing to coach the football team. The former NFL coach and ESPN analyst is entering his second season as the Sun Devils' coach.
ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — A key NCAA official says six schools are going to be facing allegations of Level I violations as early as next month, the latest fallout in the college basketball corruption scandal. Stan Wilcox, vice president for regulatory affairs for the NCAA, tells CBS Sports that two high-profile programs will be notified in early July, the others at a later date.
