UNDATED (AP) — The College World Series has an even stronger Southeastern Conference flavor than usual. SEC members Arkansas, Auburn, Mississippi State and Vanderbilt comprise half the eight-team College World Series field. The CWS begins Saturday when Texas Tech faces Michigan and Arkansas meets Florida State at Omaha, Nebraska.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Tennessee freshman offensive lineman Melvin McBride is giving up football for medical reasons. He becomes the latest in a series of Tennessee offensive linemen to say they're leaving the team for medical reasons since the end of last season. The others are Tanner Antonutti, Devante Brooks, Eric Crosby and Chance Hall.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Vanderbilt has added four more graduate transfers to its football roster. The newcomers include former South Alabama offensive lineman Rowan Godwin, former Harvard receiver/kick returner Justice Shelton-Mosley, former Illinois defensive back Cam Watkins and former Marist defensive lineman Eddie Zinn-Turner.

ATHENS, Ga. (AP) — Being a college football official has never been more difficult. Those who do it face relentless criticism and attacks on their credibility. The Southeastern Conference is exploring ways to publicly push back. Veteran official Tom Quick says he and others don't like the criticism but the big reason for stepping away is the time commitment it takes.
