PROVO — The 17-year-old boy who sustained a head injury Wednesday after he fell above Bridal Veil Falls in Provo Canyon has been rescued, authorities said.

Utah County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue responded to the incident after they received the call about 6:00 p.m. according to Utah County Sheriff's Sgt. Spencer Cannon.

The boy, who remained conscious the entire time, was rescued via medical helicopter about 7:20 p.m., authorities said.

The boy had been climbing using a rope when he slipped and fell backward but was able to hold onto the rope, which Cannon said probably saved his life.

During the about 6-foot-fall, he hit his head and was bleeding, but Cannon didn’t believe the boy suffered critical injuries.

“It looks like at this point that it’s going to turn out well for him considering where he was and what could’ve happened,” he said.
