It’s been exactly 35 years since Boston hosted its last championship-series Game 7. It was June 12, 1984, when the Celtics beat the Lakers to win the NBA title. Matt Grzelcyk (GRIHZ'-lihk) is expected to return to the Boston lineup after missing the past four games with a concussion.
BOSTON (AP) — The wife of former Red Sox star David Ortiz says her husband is making “good progress” at a hospital in Boston after being shot in the Dominican Republic. Tiffany Ortiz says in a statement issued by the team that her husband remains in the intensive care unit at Massachusetts General Hospital, but has been able to sit up and take some steps. Dominican prosecutors say witnesses and security camera footage show that Sunday’s shooting was carried out by two men on a motorcycle and two other groups of people in cars.
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) — Ramon Laureano hit his first career grand slam to break an eighth-inning tie and finished with five RBIs as the Oakland Athletics beat the Tampa Bay Rays 6-2 today. Oakland went 6-4, including taking two of three from the Rays, on a season-long 10-game road trip. Yandy Diaz and Tommy Pham both had three hits for the Rays, who are 18-16 at home and dropped one-half game behind the idle AL East-leading New York Yankees.
BOSTON (AP) — A former head sailing coach at Stanford will avoid prison after he admitted to accepting bribes in the college admissions cheating scheme. John Vandemoer apologized to his friends, family, the sailing team and Stanford during the sentencing hearing today in Boston federal court.
OCEANPORT, N.J. (AP) — The trainer of Maximum Security plans to decide tomorrow whether the colt will race this weekend in his first start since finishing first in the Kentucky Derby and being disqualified. Jason Servis is considering running Maximum Security on Sunday in the Pegasus Stakes at Monmouth Park. The trainer said Maximum Security galloped 1 1/8 miles on Wednesday and looked fit.
