PROVO, Utah (AP) — Provo police say witness accounts indicate a man was fatally shot while advancing toward a passer-by and a woman who allegedly had been hit, bitten and stomped.
Police on Friday released additional information about the circumstances surrounding the shooting Monday night of 26-year-old Jeremy Sorensen by the passer-by.
According to police, Sorenson allegedly assaulted the 18-year-old woman and the passer-by intervened, warning Sorenson to stop hurting the woman before she broke free and ran behind the passer-by.
Police say Sorenson and the woman knew each other but that the ongoing investigation of the incident hadn't determined the nature of their relationship.
The identities of the passer-by and the woman weren't released. Police called her injuries "substantial."
Prosecutors will review the results of the police investigation
