HERRIMAN — A motorcyclist is in "extremely critical condition" after police say he slammed into a wall in an apartment complex early Friday morning.

Shortly after midnight Friday, the 34-year-old man crashed at a high speed into a wall surrounding a garbage receptacle in the complex near 5630 W. Roe Deer Lane, according to Herriman Police Lt. Cody Stromberg.

The man, who lives in the area, suffered significant head trauma and was taken to a hospital in a medical helicopter, Stromberg said. The man was not wearing a helmet and was the sole rider on the motorcycle, he added.

Witnesses at the scene told police that the man had recently bought the motorcycle and was showing it off to a friend, Stromberg said.

Police are also investigating alcohol impairment as a possible factor in the crash, he added.

Stromberg did not provide the man’s identity.
