SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A Utah man is accused of making calls to the U.S. Capitol in which he threatened to kill and hurt members of Congress. In charging documents unsealed Wednesday, federal prosecutors accuse 54-year-old Scott Brian Haven of making more than 2,000 phone calls the Washington offices of unnamed U.S. representatives and senators from 2017-2019. Haven's court-appointed attorney Robert Steele didn't immediately return a phone message and email seeking comment.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Health care advocates challenged restrictions set by state officials in Utah's proposed Medicaid expansion during a tense public hearing on the plan held Thursday. Some health care advocates say the work requirement and enrollment cap outlined in the regulations would block people from receiving critical care. Officials said the requests reduce uncompensated care and prevent the Medicaid program from cutting into funds from Utah's budget. Utah rolled out its partial Medicaid expansion in April.
MIDVALE, Utah (AP) — A school in a Salt Lake City suburb was evacuated Thursday because of a chemical leak. The Unified Fire Authority said approximately 100 special needs students were evacuated from Jordan Valley School in Midvale after a janitor reported a chemical spill near a therapy swimming pool.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Protesters interrupted the board meeting of the Utah Inland Port Authority, resulting in state troopers ejecting dozens of environmental activists and arresting one. The activists with the group Civil Riot started shouting a few seconds into the meeting Wednesday at the Utah Capitol. Utah Highway Patrol troopers removed the protesters over decorum violations. They arrested activist Ethan Petersen, who had handcuffed himself to a door.
