SALT LAKE CITY — Donovan Mitchell spent some time in China last offseason. He's hoping to do it again this year.

The Utah Jazz star guard is planning on participating in the USA Basketball minicamp in August in preparation for the FIBA World Cup in China.

The New York Times' Marc Stein first reported that Mitchell's name was "gaining momentum" to be included on the roster. ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reported on Wednesday that Mitchell was indeed going to be at the minicamp with the intention to make the final roster.

Mitchell averaged 23.8 points, 4.2 assists and 4.1 rebounds while shooting 36.2% from 3-point range during his second NBA season.

Other players planning on attending are Portland's Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum, Washington's Bradley Beal, New Orleans' Anthony Davis, Houston guards James Harden and Eric Gordon, Boston's Jayson Tatum, Milwaukee's Khris Middleton and the Lakers' Kyle Kuzma.

The training camp will take place Aug. 5-8 in Las Vegas, with the World Cup running Aug. 21 through Sept. 15 in China.
