SALT LAKE CITY — For the second year in a row, Vivint Smart Home Arena will be hosting a preseason game for the NHL.

The game, which will be held on Saturday, Sept. 21, will feature the Los Angeles Kings who will host the Vancouver Canucks in the Salt Lake Shootout. The game is presented by the Utah Sports Commission.

During last year’s game, 12,367 hockey fans watched as the Kings come out on top over the Canucks in a 4-1 score.

The preseason games will continue through 2020 and will feature the same two teams in each matchup.

“Vivint Smart Home Arena had an electric atmosphere last year as a big crowd enjoyed exciting NHL action in person,” said Jim Olson, president of Vivint Smart Home Arena, in a prepared statement. “We look forward to another great night of hockey and the opportunity to again showcase the LA Kings and NHL in Salt Lake City.”

Two native Utahns played on the roster for the Kings in the game last year. Trevor Lewis of Cottonwood Heights is a forward with the team and he is the first native Utahn to win the Stanley Cup.

Joining Lewis on the team is Daniel Brickley, a defenseman who was a part of the Skyline High School team that won back-to-back state championships.

In addition to the game, the Kings will run a youth hockey camp on July 8-12 at the Park City Ice Arena.

The Kings finished up the 2019 season in eighth place in the Pacific Division with a record of 31-42. Vancouver finished in fifth place in the same division, ending their season with a 35-wins season.

Vivint Arena has been a hockey host in the past, as it was home to the Salt Lake Golden Eagles from 1991-94 and the Utah Grizzlies from 1995-97. It was host to the 1996 International Hockey League championship season as well as where olympians competed in both figure skating and short track speed skating in the 2002 Olympic Winter Games.

Tickets will go on sale on June 6 at 10 a.m. at www.vivintarena.com or at the box office.
