SALT LAKE CITY — Police are still looking for a person of interest in connection with a May 16 carjacking in which a man allegedly drove off in a woman’s van while her toddler was still inside.

Police identified Derek Orr, 29, as a person of interest in connection with the case, Salt Lake police said Tuesday in a tweet. Police located the vehicle, a Honda Odyssey minivan, at the Wells Fargo Bank at 300 S. 1300 East, according to the tweet.

The incident took place about 1:16 p.m. May 16 at the intersection of 2100 South and Green Street, which is between 600 East and 700 East, police said. The woman was trying to make a U-turn at Green Street when the man came up to her car and pulled her out. He then drove west away from the area, according to police.

The 3-year-old girl was found about 30 minutes later near 950 S. West Temple and was reunited with her mother, according to police. Authorities don’t know why the man took the car.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to call police at 801-799-3000.
