CENTERVILLE — An individual turned himself in Wednesday in connection with an armed robbery in Centerville, the city's police department said.
Police on Tuesday evening took one person into custody but were unable to locate several others in connection with the robbery, officials said. One of those individuals, Abraham Valdez Alonso (19), turned himself in on Wednesday and has been taken into custody at the Davis County Jail.
Alonso will be investigated for aggravated robbery and assault in connection with the robbery on Tuesday evening, according to a Davis County press release.
The robbery took place about 4:45 p.m. Tuesday near 800 East and 650 South in Centerville, according to a news release. Police believe the robbery took place inside a vehicle there and a man told police his wallet was taken, according to the release.
Police believe four other people were involved in the robbery, the release states. They later took Ricardo Jesus Quintero, 18, into custody. He was booked into the Davis County Jail for investigation of aggravated robbery.
The victim, who was not identified, had minor injuries to his face and was taken to Lakeview Hospital in Bountiful, according to Centerville Police Lt. Zan Robison.
Police arrived to find the victim "covered in blood," according to an arrest report for Quintero. The victim had swelling to his face and above his left eye, and had a large cut on the top of his head, according to the report. His injuries were not life-threatening, Robison added.
The man said he had been driving with some people who he thought were his friends when they told him to give them his wallet, the arrest report states. When he refused, they began to beat him, striking him multiple times, according to the report.
The man punched out the drivers-side window of the car, gave up his wallet and then was thrown from the vehicle, according to the report. He later told police he believed the people allegedly involved in the robbery would try to kill him, the report states.
Police believe someone brandished a firearm during the Centerville robbery, but no shots were fired, Robison said.
The victim described the car to police, and shortly after the robbery, police were able to locate two vehicles believed to be connected to the incident at a residence in Farmington, Robison said.
As police prepared to approach the residence, several people got out, entered two different vehicles — a gray Honda and a Dodge Charger — and drove off, according to the release and the arrest report.
Police then attempted to pull over the vehicles. The Honda stopped, and police took one man, later identified as Quintero, into custody, according to Robison.
Detectives do not believe Quintero was holding the firearm during the robbery, but that he assisted in injuring the victim during the altercation, according to the arrest report.
The Charger fled with at least two people inside, he said. Later, that car crashed into a guardrail on the on-ramp to I-15 southbound at 200 West in Farmington, Robison said.
After the crash, the people in the Charger ran away, he said. Police were searching for two or three people in connection with the robbery in the area between I-15 and Legacy Parkway, around the train tracks located there, he added.
Police used canines and a helicopter to search the area, but by about 8:30 p.m., the search was called off, Robison said. Police were unable to find any of the people who fled from the vehicle, he said.
Later on Tuesday, an officer from the Farmington Police Department questioned a girlfriend at Quintero's residence, according to the arrest report.
She reported that Quintero had called her earlier in the day and said he was going to "do a lick," meaning that he was going to rob someone, according to the report. She later came over to the house and heard four men talking about a robbery in which a man fought back and broke a window, according to the report.
Farmington police officers noted that when he was arrested, Quintero had "markings on his knuckles consistent with fighting as well as a large amount of dried blood on his pants," according to the arrest report.
According to statements made by the girlfriend, police believe that it is not the first aggravated robbery involving the same individuals, the arrest report states.
An officer visited Lakeview hospital on Tuesday to interview Jones further, according to the Davis County press release. He informed the officer that Quintero was not the one holding the gun, but he did assist in beating him. Jones told police that the individual with the gun was Abraham Alonso.
The other two people police are looking for are currently unknown, Robison said. Jones had identified one of the outstanding suspects as Abraham Alonso. The other two suspects are currently only known as Matt and Kota.
No other details about the search or robbery were available Tuesday.
