ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) — The Tampa Bay Rays have placed pitcher Tyler Glasnow on the 10-day injured list because of a mild right forearm strain that's expected to sideline him four to six weeks. Glasnow left during the sixth inning of last night's 4-3 loss to the Yankees with tightness in his forearm. The right-hander will be shut down from throwing for seven to 10 days, then be re-evaluated.
CHICAGO (AP) — The Milwaukee Brewers have scratched slugger Ryan Braun from the lineup against the Chicago Cubs because of a sore left hamstring. Ben Gamel started in left field in his place. Braun is batting .254 with eight homers and 23 RBIs.
TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) — Dick Tomey, the winningest football coach in University of Arizona history, has died of cancer. He was 80. Tomey's family and the university said he died last night in Tucson. He was diagnosed with lung cancer in December. Tomey won 95 games against 64 losses and four ties at Arizona while posting 11 winning season out of 14 with the Wildcats. He was 183-145-7 overall in 20 years as head coach at Hawaii, Arizona and San Jose State.
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — American Colton Herta posted the fastest lap in the final warmup session for today’s IndyCar Grand Prix. The 19-year-old rookie will start fourth in the race at Indianapolis. The final practice was held with sunshine warming the track, but with rain in the forecast, the track conditions could be dramatically different when the race starts.
MADRID (AP) — Novak Djokovic (NOH'-vak JOH'-kuh-vich) has reached the Madrid Open final for the third time, defeating Dominic Thiem (teem) 7-6, 7-6. Djokovic will face either Rafael Nadal or Stefanos Tsitsipas tomorrow. It will be the second final of the season for the top-ranked Djokovic, who began the year by winning the Australian Open.
