MIAMI (AP) — A man who police say barricaded himself in a downtown Miami hotel room has been taken into custody.

Miami police haven't released the man's name or said whether any charges would be filed against him. No one was injured in the standoff that started Friday morning and lasted nearly four hours.

Commander Freddie Cruz tells reporters that police were notified Friday morning that gunshots had been fired near the Hilton Miami Downtown hotel on Biscayne Boulevard.

Police surrounded the hotel and closed off several streets; nearby schools were placed on lockdown. Two fast food restaurants were also closed during the standoff.

Cruz said officers evacuated the lobby and other parts of the hotel.

The Miami Herald reports police negotiated with the man for several house before he surrendered.
