DETROIT (AP) — Albert Pujols (POO'-hohlz) has become the third player with 2,000 career RBIs. Pujols hit a solo homer today for the Los Angeles Angels against the Detroit Tigers, putting him in a group with Hank Aaron and Alex Rodriguez. Pujols received an ovation by the sparse crowd at Comerica Park, where his accomplishment was recognized on the videoboards and by the public address announcer.
DENVER (AP) _ The San Francisco Giants have placed catcher Buster Posey on the seven-day concussion list after a foul ball hit his helmet on Sunday. Posey says he was hit in the fourth inning of the game against the Cincinnati Reds. He played in Tuesday's game against the Colorado Rockies. The Giants also put pitcher Drew Pomeranz on the 10-day injured list with a strained shoulder.
COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) _ The South Carolina Senate has agreed to provide $120 million in tax breaks to the Carolina Panthers to move their practice fields and team headquarters out of North Carolina. Today’s 27-15 vote came after contentious debate with several senators questioning whether public money should be given to a billionaire NFL owner and whether the $3.8 billion proposed economic benefit of the new facility is wildly exaggerated. Gov. Henry McMaster is expected to quickly sign the bill.
NEW YORK (AP) _ The Big East Conference has reached a multi-year agreement with CBS Sports to televise its men's college basketball games through the 2024-25 season. Games will be shown on CBS and on the CBS Sports Network. The deal provides national exposure for 20 men's regular-season basketball games per year, with at least two appearances for each of the Big East's 10 schools. CBS will broadcast up to four games per season, with the remainder airing on CBSSN.
ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (AP) _ Fox Sports viewers tuning in to broadcasts this fall will not only see the game, but also will get betting predictions. The network has announced a partnership with the parent company of the PokerStars online gambling giant. Both companies will offer real-money sports betting this fall in states where it is legal and they are licensed.
