INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — The NCAA's new Academic Progress Rate scores show college athletes are continuing to excel in the classroom. The overall score of 983 matched last year's record high. This year's four-year scores covered 2013-14 through 2017-18. Scores are based on each athlete remaining enrolled in school and academically eligible. An overall score of 930 correlates to a 50 percent graduation rate.

ATHENS, Ga. (AP) — A Georgia track athlete is expected to make a full recovery after being impaled by a javelin during practice. Freshman Elija Godwin was injured when he and his fellow sprinters were doing backward sprints at the school's track. A school statement says Godwin backed into a javelin that was implanted in the ground, causing the rear part of the spear to stick into his back. Campus police says Godwin suffered a punctured and collapsed left lung.
