LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — The owner of Maximum Security, the horse who appeared to win the Kentucky Derby only to be disqualified 20 minutes later, says the colt will not run in the Preakness. Gary West tells The Associated Press, having no opportunity to run for the Triple Crown, there's really no need to run a horse back in two weeks. West also says he will appeal racing stewards' ruling that Maximum Security interfered and impeded the path of several horses.
UNDATED (AP) — The scenario is simple right now for Milwaukee and Golden State: Win a road game tonight and go home toting a 3-1 series lead, one win away from a spot in the NBA's conference finals. The scenario is equally simple for Boston and Houston: Win a home game tonight, or else. Milwaukee and Boston tip off around 7 p.m. Eastern. Golden State and Houston are scheduled for a 9:30 start.
UNDATED (AP) — Two road teams will be looking to close out their hosts in a pair of NHL Game 6s tonight. But Columbus coach John Tortorella says that won't happen. He predicts his Blue Jackets will force the Boston Bruins to a Game 7, as long as his guys are "more creative and making more plays." Meanwhile, in Denver, San Jose coach Peter DeBoer says his Sharks have been through enough to know the Avalanche won't go away easily. San Jose survived three elimination games to win their first round series against Vegas.
UNDATED (AP) — As expected, the NL East has been a grind so far. The Phillies, Braves, Mets and Nationals are within five games of each other, with Philadelphia in first place at 19-14. The Phils beat Washington 7-1 yesterday to widen their lead over the fourth-place Nationals. Philadelphia is 15-9 against the NL East, but they're headed to St. Louis tonight. Washington is in Milwaukee to face the Brewers, while the Braves and Mets are on the West Coast to face the Dodgers and Padres, respectively.
CINCINNATI (AP) — The Reds will be looking for a split when they complete their four-game series with San Francisco this afternoon. They'll send rightie Anthony DeSclafani to the mound, sporting a scoreless streak of 14 2-3 innings. Lefthander Drew Pomeranz gets the start for the visiting Giants. Both teams are currently last in their divisions.
