SALT LAKE CITY — Gov. Gary Herbert wrapped up signing bills passed during this year's legislative session Wednesday, vetoing a budget item that would have provided for the construction of a sound barrier along Mountain View Corridor.

The line item in SB3 — which was added late in the legislative session — would have allowed the Utah Department of Transportation to use $800,000 from the state transportation fund to build a sound barrier along Mountain View Corridor at 8157 S. Mapleleaf Way, West Jordan.

The governor vetoed the item because the address "does not exist along Mountain View Corridor."

The address actually borders Bangerter Highway.

Developers from Garbett Homes previously asked UDOT to build the wall, the Salt Lake Tribune reported last week. When UDOT declined because undeveloped property usually does not qualify for sound barriers, Garbett Homes approached members of the Executive Appropriations Committee.

UDOT did not have a position on the line item, spokesman John Gleason told KSL.
