SALT LAKE CITY — One man has been arrested and another is in critical condition after a hit-and-run crash near 100 South Main in Salt Lake City, authorities said.
A man was standing in the street not in a crosswalk when he was hit about 4 p.m., according to Salt Lake police detective Michael Ruff. The man was taken to a hospital with critical but not life-threatening injuries, Ruff said.
The car left the scene of the crash after the man was hit, Ruff said. Later in the evening, police arrested Todd Smith, 49, in connection with the accident, Salt Lake City Police Department said via Twitter. Police are also investigating whether he was driving under the influence, SLCPD confirmed.
The vehicle was seen in a different location prior to the crash and was traveling recklessly, Ruff said. The driver of the car may have been involved in a verbal altercation before the crash, Ruff added.
Editor's note: Salt Lake police originally said the name of the person in custody was Joshua Shelton. Later, police issued a correction, stating the actual name of the person arrested is Todd Smith. This story has been updated to reflect the correction by SLCPD.
