SALT LAKE CITY — A body was found in a car near the top of Emigration Canyon, authorities said.
Police discovered a car with a kind of yellow smoke coming out of it and a dead body inside at Emigration Canyon, according to Unified police detective Ken Hansen.
About the car, Hansen said, "We hear it's been parked there for a couple days."
Upon further investigation, it was revealed that the man appeared to have been dead for less than a day, Hansen said.
"We also located a couple pans of briquettes in the trunk that had been lit," he added.
Briquettes are blocks of charcoal or dust used as fuel. "We don't know at this time if this person was trying to stay warm or if there was some other type of situation," Hansen said.
Unified Police Department arrested a man about a block up the canyon who they think might be associated with the individual, according to Hansen. The detained man was later released.
"We have an investigator on the scene," Hansen said. "We'll go through everything and see what he thinks. Right now, he's telling me it's a suspicious death."
No other details about the death were immediately available.
