SALT LAKE CITY — A man who was wanted by the FBI in connection with a fatal crash has turned himself in, officials said.

Phillip Rentz, 35, was allegedly involved in a crash while driving under the influence near Aneth, San Juan County, in July 2017, the FBI said in a statement emailed Thursday.

Rentz was driving the car when it veered off the road and crashed, according to the FBI statement. One of the occupants of the car was pronounced dead at the scene, and Rentz allegedly had a blood alcohol content of .217 at the the time of the crash, FBI officials said.

Both Rentz and the victim are members of the Navajo Nation; Rentz faces a charge of involuntary manslaughter while in Indian Country in connection with the crash. A federal warrant was issued for his arrest, Thursday.

The FBI asked for help in finding Rentz, and the man turned himself in sometime between Thursday and Friday. He is currently in custody, FBI officials confirmed.
