EAGLE MOUNTAIN — One man was taken into custody and police anticipated making additional arrests in connection with a string of car burglaries in Eagle Mountain.
On Sunday, more than a half-dozen cars parked near a chapel of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 7241 N. Ute Drive, were broken into. Cars were burglarized in at least three separate locations. Some vehicles had their windows broken out by the suspects to gain access, according to deputies.
One car, however, had a dash-cam recording and captured images of two men. Police say once images from that video were released to the media, "a LOT of people called to tell us who the suspects were," the sheriff's office said in a prepared statement.
"Almost immediately, UCSO deputies began receiving multiple phone calls from approximately 10 people," according to a Utah County Jail report.
After learning the identity of one of the suspects, investigators served a search warrant late Sunday on his Eagle Mountain home, according to a statement from the sheriff's office.
"During the service of the warrant one of the suspects drove by the house. Deputies attempted to stop the vehicle. However, he attempted to evade deputies by driving through fields and fences," according to the statement.
At one point, the fleeing suspect was going about 80 mph in a 40 mph zone, the report states.
Deputies were able to catch Bradlee D. Kalkbrenner, 34, and book him into the Utah County Jail for investigation of a laundry list of charges. Kalkbrenner was arrested for investigation of 35 charges, including multiple counts of vehicle burglary, theft, drug possession, unlawful possession of a bank card and criminal mischief. Meth and heroin were found in the car he used to flee from police, the jail report states.
"The total amount of criminal mischief during the vehicle burglaries is estimated to be approximately $1,000. The total damages that Kalkbrenner caused during the pursuit are estimated to be more than $2,000," according to the report.
