AMERICAN FORK — A man who tried to get rid of an unwanted guest by calling 911 to report a shooting now faces a felony charge, according to court documents.
Steven Neils Hampton, 59, of American Fork, was charged Thursday in 4th District Court with emergency reporting abuse, a third-degree felony.
On Wednesday, Hampton allegedly called 911 to report a man had "shot himself in the head," according to charging documents. As emergency crews were responding, he reportedly called again and stated there hadn't been a shooting, but the man was in a bedroom with a gun.
"After arrival, and EMS and police being tied up on scene for some time, it was finally determined that nothing occurred in the residence, and that the defendant just wanted the other male removed from the residence," the charges state.
A summons was issued for Hampton to appear in court.
