UNDATED (AP) — New North Carolina coach Mack Brown landed a big pickup by flipping in-state quarterback Sam Howell from Florida State. Howell committed to the Seminoles in the spring, but announced he will instead play for the Tar Heels. Howell's choice is good news for the Tar Heels considering they've had shaky QB play through the two seasons since Mitch Trubisky left for the NFL. The news is also a big hit to Florida State, which finished 5-7 in its first season under coach Willie Taggart
ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) — In the same hour, Michigan had an expected departure and a surprise signing. Devin Bush announced he's skipping his senior season and entering the NFL draft on the opening day of the early signing period in a move that wasn't a surprise. Bush shared his decision on Twitter and Instagram shortly after the Wolverines welcomed five-star defensive back Dax Hill to its 20-plus player recruiting class. Hill had committed to play at Alabama after previously planning to attend Michigan.
MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Wisconsin might have its next anchor on the offensive line with 6-foot-6 Logan Brown, a five-star prospect out of Grand Rapids, Michigan. Wisconsin also signed its possible quarterback of the future in Graham Mertz, a four-star prospect out of Overland Park, Kansas.
EAST LANSING, Mich. (AP) — Michigan State has signed offensive lineman Devontae Dobbs of Detroit as part of its 2019 recruiting class. Dobbs, a five-star recruit according to 247Sports, played for Belleville High School. He's part of what Mark Dantonio says might be the best class of offensive linemen he's signed in over a decade as Michigan State's coach. The Spartans announced 20 new additions, a couple of whom are walk-ons.
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP) — Devonte Green scored 19 points, freshman Romeo Langford recorded his second double-double and No. 22 Indiana beat Central Arkansas 86-53. The Hoosiers have won five straight, though this was their first victory by more than three points during the streak. They've also won eight straight home games. Langford had 18 points, 11 rebounds and five assists.
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP) — The Indiana Hoosiers signed 19 football players to national letters-of-intent. Running back Sampson James of Avon High School, near Indianapolis, is considered the top recruit. He joins a group that includes highly-touted defensive back Tiawan Mullen, linebacker Cameron Williams and defensive lineman Beau Robbins, who played at Carmel High School in suburban Indy. The announcement comes two days after Indiana landed quarterback Jake Tuttle, who is transferring from Utah.
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Minnesota has assembled a 2019 recruiting class that's ranked 33rd in the FBS and eighth in the Big Ten. The NCAA's early signing period opened with 23 commitments to the Gophers. Rashad Cheney, from Ellenwood, Georgia, is the four-star highlight of a class of six defensive linemen. Four Minnesota players will join the program: Eden Prairie quarterback Cole Kramer, Perham defensive lineman Logan Richter, Cretin-Derham Hall wide receiver Peter Udoibok, and Owatonna running back Jason Williamson.
IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) — Iowa has signed 20 players to national letters of intent, a group headlined by in-state linemen Ezra Miller of Holstein and Tyler Endres of Norwalk. Miller and Endres were two of Iowa's four-star signees, joining linebacker Justin Jacobs of Ohio. The Hawkeyes also signed a quarterback in Alex Padilla, a two-time, first-team all-state pick out of Colorado.
